People ConneX Summer Festival Roundup Part 2

30 July and 10 August – Meeting local representatives

Local Community Representatives joined groups of 30 people David Simmonds MP Ruislip, Northwood, Pinner and

Tues Aug 10th Krupesh Hirani the new GLA Member for Harrow and Brent who listened to numerous issues affecting Local Underground and promised to follow issues through along with lack of Facilities for Disabilities at Local Stations.

David Simmonds MP wrote that the People ConneX team: “held a very interesting session at Northwood Methodist Church at the end of last month. It was great to learn how they have supported members through the pandemic and to hear views on a wide range of issues.”

11 August – Fun in the Sun at Eastcote Gardens

Over 40 clients, volunteers and staff had tons of fun in the sun! The group came together for a healthy walk, followed by a delicious pizza lunch and activities at Eastcote Gardens.

The delightful event featured musical performances from violinist and volunteer Jill Camprubi as well as Alan the Entertainer. Alan got everyone up and involved in his songs by handing out percussion instruments, and even led the group in Morris Dancing while he played the guitar and accordion.

Guests also had a chance to enjoy ball games such as tennis and football.

13 August – Lunch

19 people had another delicious monthly at Waters Edge Carvery with Cllr Duncan Flynn the Chief Whip at Hillingdon Council who took up various issues from 20 people attending the lunch Clients had this delicious lunch as part of Healthy Walks and Relaxation with Ball Games in the Park.

14 August – Saturday Countryside Walk

On 14 August, our usual monthly country side walk went ahead.

Despite terrible problems on Underground 12 people travelled to Amersham at Midday to do a 3 hour walk in countryside areas to reach Chesham for a late 3pm lunch at our favourite restaurant Poppins.

Our new client Robert said, “It really made my weekend to have a Saturday out with friends after the usual enjoyable Friday.”

17 August – Walk, Meal and Talk in Watford with Dean Russell MP

On 17 August, our People ConneX team finally got a chance to meet with Dean Russell, the local MP for Watford, after he was sadly pinged the last time had they tried to arrange a joint activity. Dean joined a group of 15 clients and volunteers for a walk in Cassiobury Park who told him about their experiences of the People ConneX programme.

After the walk, the group went for a delicious 3 course meal at L’artista Restaurant in Watford town centre followed by tea and coffee. During the lunch, the People ConneX staff were delighted to arrange a follow up meeting with Dean to work on plans for setting up new support groups and activities for communities, families and individuals based in Watford.

Following the meal, the group joined Dean for a talk on mental health and a Question-and-Answer session.

20 August – Friday Walk and Lunch with Northwood Methodist Church

Once again Barbara Sved came to provide 16 people with a lovely after lunch of songs, music, and fun. This followed a delicious Jacket Potato and Salad lunch followed by a delicious apple pie, Before and after our regular Friday Activity at Northwood Methodist Church there was a healthy walk around Pinner Green, Northwood Hills, and Northwood.

We are delighted to have successfully completed the last stretch of our People ConneX Summer Festival with so many enjoyable memories, events, and activities. Thank you to everyone who took part in and supported the programme.
